“When stillness culminates, there is movement” is bound to Gunilla Klingberg’s interest in energy, loops and transformation, and developed during her visits to South Korea. Klingberg uses different techniques to refer to invisible spiritual patterns in our daily routines.
In «Sun prints», Klingberg used the windows of traditional fortune tellers as the objects for her manipulations with cyanotypes. The fortune-tellers' shops are often associated with other times and possibilities, and the windows act like membrane between inner and outer worlds, between rational and intuitive.
In «ReCharge» the sun takes different form through a bank of 7 LED tube lamps powered from batteries charged by solar panels. The process of the lamps activation, energy accumulation, and culmination in a fully charged bank at the end of the day shows the spectator the ongoing loop of charge and display.
Klingberg focuses on interrelationships rather than polarity between traditional and contemporary, inside and outside, stillness and movement, the concrete and the ethereal, therefore advocating a more complicated and fluid stance reflecting liminal and inconstant existence.
