During their journey to Guatemala and El Salvador, artist Per Hüttner and fashion designer Emilia Rota researched the concept of “wayob” which in both ancient and contemporary Mayan language mean “sleeping.” But sleep indicates “nagual” which means transformation of one self into animal and ability to move between different realities. In Mayan ontology a person is made up of three parts: a waking self, a sleeping self and an animal self. The project creates bridges between world views from different times and different places and shows the need for dialogue between the different parallel worlds.
