"Through the trees" is Ellen Ehk Åkesson's second solo exhibition at Berg Gallery and it is a deepening of her first exhibition titled "Forest theme". She continues her investigation of her own fascination of forest mystique. Memories from childhood are mixed with the forests she walks in today, forests in art, in music and within her. The exhibition includes new works in ceramics and bronze.
"I'm from the forest, it's within me. I will tell about it in my sculptures. Memories from my childhood's woodland are ceramic daydreams that create a new nature. The objects depict my inner experience of the forest. I have realized that the materials and crafts are essential to my way of working."
"My artistic research is a dialogue with the material, I ask questions and search for answers in the expressions I find in the process. I break, restart, get surprised, find new ways. Without the material, I feel blind and the story is hidden in the dark. I treat the clay in many ways, and most of the works that come out of the kiln are the result of new experiments."
"I have transferred my design idiom from one material to another. I found bronze, and along with the bronze caster Alexander Brandt I have explored techniques where I can translate the expressions I found in clay to bronze. And allow bronze to make new additions in its own materiality."
