She has got her name right. But unlike her ancestors, Johanna Fjeastad has a completely different expression. In her paintings abstract meets the figurative. Her previous focus in drawing and ceramic has in recent years turned into painting.
The exhibition at Galleri Flach contains a number of canvases and a group of sculptures that emerge in a shimmering light. Want a brief explanation what they’re all about? They describe a longing to escape reality and to be part of a different context. Which to us sounds like the state of mind at any young person in this society… Anyhow, threat and destruction are recurrent themes in Fjaestad's works. A portrait of the singer Lana del Rey speaks of seduction and decadence.
