Holy! Holy! Holy is the escape that leaves the door locked from the inside. […]
The oscillation between the functional, dysfunctional, and non-funtional — which is central in Karon Nilzén’s sculptures — does not get much help to stop at a certain point of clarity, but inevitably remains in motion. Objects and materials that usually have an integral part in our daily lives are dissolved and recreated into new bodies that don’t have an obvious place in our world, but outside the borders of our society, outside of our reference points that we use to navigate through life; outside of our control. In the exhibition "Holy! Holy! Holy is the escape that leaves the door locked from the inside. […]”, a new body of sculptural works continues this journey, but changes direction. However it is not the 180 degrees turn we are so familiar with, but a turn that can’t be so clearly defined with a number. With a spontaneous approach to the materials and the gallery space, and the intention of stripping bare the different layers of practical functions and measurable values, the new works departure the signature maximalistic state to approach a new unknown territory.
The oscillation continues.
