Ewert Karlsson is Sweden’s most internationally famous political illustrator. He lived from 1918 to 2004 and is best known under his signature EWK.
Ewert was a master of political cartoons, and wanted us to see the world from a different perspective, commenting on current events with a sharp eye and keen sense of humour as his tools.
His award-winning drawings are well-known internationally. Anyone can appreciate his pictures and find their own interpretation. He portrayed major and minor events that influenced society.
This exhibition, Free Word 250 – Freedom of expression through the eyes of EWK, was produced by the EWK Museum at the Museum of Work in Norrköping. It was created to mark the 250th anniversary in 2016 of the principle of public access to official records and the first Swedish Freedom of the Press Act.
