Kristina Skantze

Kristina works with handsewn puppet-like sculptures. With millions of stitches she shapes human and animal bodies in silk jersey. Her neat but skewed creatures explores ambiguous states of mind. Textile handicraft is her main technique, but she also works with wood carving and casted sculptures in other materials. She uses her textile figures and body parts in photography, film animation and puppet performance. Kristina is educated in textile art at HDK-Valand - Academy of Art and Design, University of Gothenburg (BFA 2012) and Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (MFA 2016). For example she had solo exhibitions at Soft Galleri (Oslo), Kulturcentrum Ronneby Konsthall, Fiberspace Gallery, (Stockholm) and Alma Löv Museum of Unexp. Art (Östra Ämtervik). She participated in group shows at for instance Charlottenborg Kunsthal (Copenhagen), GGallery (Houston, Texas), Kuwasawa Design School (Tokyo) and Konstepidemin (Gothenburg). In March 2024 she will be part of Tendenser at Galleri F15, Moss, Norway.
