By combining materials, colors and compositions Alejandro wants to create monumental pieces that change our perception of our preconceived way of viewing aesthetics and identities. They make visually loud expressions that all take part of an artistic-political strategy of questioning supremacy, redefining western norms of aesthetics and claiming space while re-appropriating one’s culture. Through theory and pop culture references they want the viewer to be forced to notice these aesthetics and question the roots of their personal taste and how they might stem from a history written by a white heteronormative society, who’s intention was to exclude and erase minorities and femme perspectives that where deemed as too different or too norm breaking. It’s important for Alejandro to counteract this silencing by working big and bold and by creating works that present what has been seen as lower as something proud and powerful.
