Jennifer Saxell

Jennifer Saxell

Jennifer Saxell was born and raised on the west coast of Canada. While visiting Sweden in 1990 she fell in love with the little fairytale town of Ystad and emigrated there with her family a year later. Since then her paintings are often inspired by the picturesque region of Österlen in southern Scania and the grand cities of Sweden and Denmark. She has created a style of her own – a form of naivistic pop-art. With an innate sense of form and colour she playfully provokes and stretches the boundaries of perspective and reality, shaping living landscapes that are not only decorative art but also interpretations of a physical and ethereal connection to nature and life itself - with each painting accompanied by a short poetic story penned by the artist herself. Jennifer is also an illustrator, graphic designer, writer and critically acclaimed performing musician and composer. In 2007 she received the city of Ystad's Culture Award (Kulturpris) and in 2010 published the book "Ystad", a collection of her own writings and street motifs. She is the illustrator of Ingela ‘Pling’ Forsman’s childrens-books and Susanna Alakoski’s young-readers novels. Saxell is a member of the Swedish Artists’ National Organisation (KRO) and the International Assocation of Art. Her work can be seen in galleries, museums and private collections around the world
