Anna Hillbom

In her sculptures Anna Hillbom aim to enable a sensuous relation to monumentality, sprung from a personal logic, tactile and poetic thinking. In elementary and playful shapes, a sense of fragility and magnitude becomes evident. Elements from a classical canon and everyday objects, are canalized to soften and re-interpret hegemonic expression. Archaic gestures, archeological founds and everyday objects, are processed into vaguely familiar shapes. Brass, plaster, wood and ceramic is handled in order to bring out intrinsic qualities of the material, and a possible mystic. Anna Hillbom has studied at Umeå Konsthögskola and Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. She has exhibited her work in Sweden and internationally, recently at APT Gallery London, Galleri CC Malmö, Punt WG Amsterdam, Schimmel Art Centre Dresden, Galleri 21 Malmö, Umeå Konsthall, Italienska Palatset Växjö and Konstfrämjandet Umeå. Anna lives and works in Malmö.
